Catholic schools have been safely providing in-person instruction since September 2020 due to faithful compliance with the Department of Health’s COVID protocols. Our schools have been able to largely avoid transmission of the virus among students, staff, and visitors due to the uniform standards issued by the state. Since then, the ongoing success of the vaccine roll-out has permitted Governor Cuomo to lift most COVID restrictions.

Although we anticipate and hope for the relaxing of the restrictions for schools, we have yet to receive an update to the state’s protocols that will apply to the reopening of our schools this coming September – including the extent to which masks and safe distancing will be required. Our Council of Catholic School Superintendents has requested the immediate release of updated protocols to enable us to make critical decisions on enrollment, staffing and facility needs.
