Social Media Workshops for Parents
Over the last ten years, the rapid growth of technology has affected every aspect of life and made it an almost indispensible part of human activity. We have all experienced its many benefits, yet we know that technology can be used for negative, even destructive purposes. We as parents and teachers have an obligation to teach and model a responsible use of technology to the youngsters, many of whom have never experienced life without social media.
To this end, St. Joseph Catholic Academy has partnered with the diocesan Program for the Development of Human Potential (PDHP) to offer a workshop designed to provide parents with necessary information and tools to assist the children to be more responsible about their use of technology – especially social media. SJCA has sponsored the evening Working Together Parent Workshop Series for the last two years, and it has been very well received by those parents who have been able to participate. However, we know that your many responsibilities as parents have made it difficult to participate – even for those who would like to do so. Therefore, especially since we view this particular Internet/Social Media workshop as essential to parents raising children in 2017, we are offering the workshop four times to make it possible for all parents to participate.
If you are a parent of a youngster currently enrolled at SJCA in Grades 3 to 8, please consider it a mandate that you (one or both parents) register for one of the four sessions: Monday, September 25, at 8:30 a.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, September 26, 27, and 28, at 7 p.m. We are attempting to keep each session to a comfortable size to allow for questions and discussion, so we will be limiting each session to sixty participants. Please register on-line by Friday, September 15.
